  2. 1. Describe the boneyard.
The boneyard is a deep pit lined with heavy whalebones. The loose sand and stacked bones make the pit treacherous and difficult to escape.
    2. Why was the tape on Matt’s mouth removed?
Normally all the tape is removed before someone is thrown into the boneyard, but the Keepers felt extremely threatened by Matt and Chocho, so they left all the tape on except for the gags.
    3. How does Matt describe Tam Lin?
Matt speaks of Tam Lin as his father, both because Matt had a father-son relationship with Tam Lin, and because he is pretending to be a refugee from Aztlan.
    4. What is the boys’ status at the end of the chapter?
By the end of the chapter, the boys have escaped through the fence on Ton-Ton’s fertilizer cart.
