Chapter 15 – A Starved Bird
Matt learns that Maria and Emilia have been sent away to a convent. When going to the stable for a horse, Matt sees Rosa and discovers she has been made into an eejit. For the first time he realized what a terrible thing it is to be turned into an eejit.
Matt finds a metal chest at the Oasis, left for him by Tam Lin, containing food, camping supplies, books, and maps.
El Viejo dies and everyone comes to the estate for the funeral. MacGregor looks much younger. Matt is yelled at by the Priest, who rudely states that Matt is not welcome in church. Maria comes to his rescue, and confronts the priest. They run and hide in the secret passage.

ReplyDelete1. Where has Maria and Emilia been sent to? Why? – They were sent to bearding school to learn to become proper ladies.
2. Why can’t Matt send Maria a letter? – Maria’s father would intercept the letter and read it. Maria might never receive the card if that happens.
3. What has happened to Rosa? What was Matt’s reaction to seeing Rosa? – Rosa has become an eejit. He is shocked and disturbed how they turned a real human into a robot.
4. What did Matt find at the canyon? – Matt found a silver trunk with stuff in it left by Tam Lin.
5. Why do you think Tam Lin left these things for Matt? – Tam Lin left the stuff for him to show that he cares and in case of an emergency.
6. Who has died? What was the reaction to Matt at the service? – El Viejo died. Matt was not welcomed at the service.
7. What was Matt’s reaction to MacGregor entering the service? What about him has changed? – Macgregor looked thirty years younger and looked like tom. He hated him because he was seeing toms face/ tom in 100 years.
8. What has changed about Maria? – Maria became more mature and lady like.
9. Describe the children’s choir? – The children’s choir was all blank faced eejits.
10. What is the Priest’s reaction to Matt? Other people? – The priest was infuriated that he was there. The other people were also shocked.
11. Why does Maria confront the priest? – Maria confronted the priest to: 1) stand up for matt and showed she cares and 2) to talk to matt in private

2) Matt can't send Maria a letter because her father would stop the letter from getting to her.
3) Rosa was turned into an eejit. Matt was disturbed at seeing her because he had actually seen her when she was a normal person.
4) Matt found a trunk full of survival supplies and books on survival. It was left for him by Tam Lin.
5) I think Tam Lin left the supplies for Matt in case Matt had to run away.
6) El Viejo died. People didn't want Matt at the service but El Patron invited him.
7) Matt was enraged when he saw MacGregor at the service because he looked like Tom. MacGregor looked a lot younger.
8) Maria looked more mature and beautiful to Matt.
9) The childrens choir was all eejits.
10) The priest was angered that Matt was there because he was an animal. Other people didn't want Matt there either.
11) Maria stood up to the priest because she cared about Matt. She was also trying to talk to Matt alone.
12) Matt took Maria to the music room closet and then into the secret passage way.
