ReplyDelete1. How did Matt begin to feel the confessions? – The boys were fine but then they all started insulting him on Jorge’s behalf.
2. Why is Fidelito punished by Jorge in particular? – Fidelito spoke for Matt when he wasn’t supposed to.
3. According to Jorge, why must the lazy be punished? –the lazy bring the group down and everyone needs to work the same.
4. What did Matt do rather than “retreat to his private kingdom?” – Matt spoke up and fought.
5. What was Flaco’s “implied threat” (p. 320-321). – Falco threatened that, boys who don’t act good end up in the bone pile.
6. What was found out about Matt? What was the impact on the other boys? – They found out about his tattoo. The other boys thought he was an Eejit.
7. Who comes to Matt’s defense? What does he say? – Chacho stood up for him. He said that he is the same as us; he is no longer a slave so he is a boy just like us. If he was a slave he wouldn’t talk or defend himself.
8. Where were Matt and Chacho taken? – They were taken to the pile of whale bones to die inside them.

ReplyDelete1) Matt felt horrible at the confession because all the kids were saying what he did wrong, and he was starting to see how messed up the system of the place was.
2) Fidelito tried to confess for Matt. Also because he is acting like Matt's "lacky".
3) People who are lazy make the "machine" stop working right, every one needs to work the same to make it work.
4) Matt stood up for Fidelito and questioned Jorge. He also beat up Jorge.
5) That the boys out number the keepers 200:20. If the boys wanted to rebel than the keepers couldn't stop them.
6) They found the tattoo on Matt's foot. The other boys avoided him and didn't listen to him anymore.
7) Chacho stood up for Matt and said that Matt was still the same person as before and he is like the others.
8) Matt and Chacho were taken to the "Boneyard", a giant ditch of old whale bones. They were taken there to die.
