Chapter 24 – A Final Goodbye
Tam Lin really intended to help Matt escape. He answers Matt’s question about his past activities as a terrorist. Tam Lin is hiding Celia in the stables with Rosa, disguised as an eejit, but she’s unharmed.
We learn the “dirty secret” that clones are no different than other humans and that El Patron has kept Opium one hundred years behind the rest of the world. Tam Lin tells Matt to head to Maria’s convent once he makes it into Aztlan, and then make contact with her mother.

1) At the beginning of the chapter, Matt feels betrayed by Tam Lin, who is bringing him to the eejit pens to kill him.

3) Matt has to choose whether to trust Tam Lin and use his help to escape, or to steal the horse and run away into the mountains.
4) Working for El Patron was only a place to hide at the beginning for Tam Lin, but once something belongs to El Patron, it stays that way forever. Tam Lin thinks that the bombing was horrible, and that he didn't consider the other people who could get in the way.
5) Celia showed Tam Lin what a monster he had become doing anything for El Patron.
6) Tam Lin can't escape the “moral consequences" of "benefiting from the horrors of Opium." He intends to make things right.
7) Tam Lin tells Matt to go to Atzlan and to Maria's convent. When he reaches the border, he says to tell them he is a refugee.
8) The "filthy lie" about clones is that there is no difference between a clone and a human.
9) “El Patron kept Opium frozen one hundred years in the past” means that in Opium, things are the way they were when El Patron was a boy.
10) Tam Lin tells Matt to got to San Luis and the Convent of Santa Clara.
11) Matt's escape is significant because Matt is the only thing that has ever escaped from El Patron.

He can't leave without making things better. He intends to make things right.

3. The choice Matt had to make was wether to follow Tam Lin to the oasis or escape with his horse.
4.Tam Lin thought that the bombing was horrible. He thought that working for El Patron would give him a place to hide. He didn't know that you can't escape El Patron.
5. Celia showed Tam Lin that he had become a monster in El Patron's shadow.
6. Tam Lin can't escape the moral consequences means that he can't stop feeling guilty. He intends to take away the guilt by putting things right.
